Today, we are calling on the Ontario government to practice regulatory fairness for the live performing arts in the Road-to-Reopen plan.

We thank the Ontario government on its Roadmap to Reopening announced on May 20, 2021. We collectively welcome a transition to a new framework, particularly this new mechanism that benchmarks and incentivizes vaccination rates, and its potential to lay out a smoother and more equitable recovery pathway for Ontario’s extraordinary arts sector.

However, today we draw attention to three significant oversights related to performing arts and live music venues and organizations:‍

1) Preparation for reopening (rehearsal)

2) Allowances for live streaming

3) Parity and percentage-based capacity.  ‍

With these adjustments, the government can pave a smoother recovery path for Ontario’s live performing arts industry and help us get back to doing what we do best.
