The MSYO

The Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra is an exciting division of Orchestras Mississauga that offers music education and performance opportunities to young classical musicians. Led by Music Director and Conductor Maestro Denis Mastromonaco, the MSYO has quickly established itself as Mississauga’s foremost youth orchestra.

2024/25 Season

The MSYO is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the 2024/25 Season. The MSYO will run two ensembles this coming season: Sinfonia and the Symphony Orchestra.

Sinfonia

Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass

  • Recommended ages 10 to 14 years.
  • Experience level: intermediate knowledge of the instrument, some previous ensemble experience is recommended.
  • Outcome: to learn the musical and ensemble skills necessary to progress to the Symphony Orchestra
  • Sinfonia will rehearse on their own as well as perform with the Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra

Winds: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon
Brass: French horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba
Percussion: Timpani, Orchestral Percussion, Mallets, Piano
Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass

  • Recommended ages 14 to 21 years
  • Experience level:  intermediate to advanced knowledge of the instrument –  some previous orchestral experience required
  • Outcome: to provide young musicians exposure to symphonic music in a professional and educational environment

Schedule

Rehearsals are held in the Living Arts Centre on Monday evenings from 7:00pm – 9:30pm, from September to May. Music stands are provided as well as music, folders, pencils and other resources. Members are responsible for providing their own instrument. The MSYO uses professional artistic staff and coaches and has developed a reputation for excellence in the Mississauga Arts Community.

Our four main-series concerts take place in the Main Auditorium at the Living Arts Centre with professional technical production. Additional outreach concerts are added to the schedule as they become available.

Once we receive your application, you will be contacted regarding admission. New applicants will receive an audition information form and be asked to supply an audition video.

Once admitted to the program, you will receive the MSYO Handbook, Code of Conduct, and information on how to pay your fee.

If you are not admitted to the program, you may be put on a waiting list.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee for the 2024-25 season is $800 for the Symphony Orchestra and $650 for the Sinfonia.

Tuition fees include all rehearsals, coaching, concerts, MSYO golf shirt, sheet music, resource material and two complimentary tickets to every MSYO concert.

Tuition fees will be collected upon notice of acceptance.
