The Mississauga Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to feature acclaimed Canadian pianist Sheng Cai in The Nordic Experience, taking place Saturday, March 28 at the Living Arts Centre. Praised by audiences and critics around the world for his dynamic artistry and international career, Sheng will perform Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor, one of the most beloved works in the Romantic piano repertoire, known for its dramatic opening, sweeping lyricism, and virtuosic brilliance.

Recently nominated for the 2025 Oskar Morawetz Award for Excellence in Music Performance, Canadian pianist Sheng Cai has captivated audiences across four continents with his electrifying stage presence and distinctive musical voice. Critics have praised his performances for their effortless virtuosity, expressive depth, and refined attention to detail.

Since winning top prizes at both the Concours OSM (Montreal Symphony Competition) and the Toronto Symphony Piano Competition at just fifteen years old, Cai has performed over 35 different piano concertos, spanning repertoire from Mozart to leading 21st-century composers, and has appeared as guest soloist with more than 60 orchestras worldwide. Recent concerto collaborations include the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Calgary Philharmonic, Edmonton Symphony, Memphis Symphony, Shanghai Symphony, Shenzhen Symphony, and numerous orchestras across Europe including the Nuremberg Symphoniker, Sinfonieorchester Aachen, Orchestre National de Cannes, Krakow Philharmonic, and Malaga Philharmonic.

Cai has worked with many distinguished conductors including Keith Lockhart, Yoav Talmi, JoAnn Falletta, Rune Bergmann, David Lockington, Robert Moody, Donato Cabrera, and Marco Parisotto, among others.

As a recitalist and chamber musician, Cai has appeared at leading venues such as Steinway Hall (New York), Jordan Hall (Boston), Glenn Gould Studio (Toronto), and concert halls across North America and Europe. His performances have been broadcast internationally on Radio France Musique, CBC Radio, WFMT Chicago, and other major networks.

An acclaimed recording artist, his albums on the ATMA Classique label—featuring works by Liszt, Grieg, and Rachmaninoff—have received international praise from American Record Guide, Classics Today, and Fanfare Magazine.

Born in Canada, Sheng Cai studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School Pre-College Division, and the New England Conservatory, where he earned his Bachelor of Music on full scholarship. His teachers include Anton Kuerti, Gary Graffman, and Russell Sherman.
