Eileen Keown
General Manager
Eileen Keown joined Orchestras Mississauga as General Manager on October 6, 2008, assuming responsibility from Interim General Manager Paul Eck. In October 2010 she was given the added responsibility of Project Leader of the Capacity Building Project. Ms Keown is a seasoned arts management executive whose past management roles have included: Executive Director of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Dean of the Community School at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), General Manager of the Kiwanis Music Festival of Greater Toronto, Manager of General Programs at Mount Royal College Conservatory (Calgary), Manager of the Mount Royal College School of Dance, and most recently, Executive Director of the Oakville Children’s Choir where she effectively managed the transition of the OCC following the resignation of the founder and Music Director. At the Royal Conservatory of Music, Ms Keown was the Chair of Academic Council for several years, and created the five year strategic plan “Putting the Rubber on the Road”. Ms Keown sits on the Board and is a performing member of the Mississauga Chamber Music Society.
As well as her extensive management experience, Ms Keown also maintains a studio of piano, music theory and pedagogy students, and is an adjudicator and senior examiner for Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations, based in Mississauga. She travels across Canada and into the United States as a clinician for music teachers as well as an adjudicator for music students. Ms Keown has taught at the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, Alberta College Conservatory (Edmonton), Mount Royal College (Calgary) and the Royal Conservatory in both Toronto and Mississauga. Ms Keown’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Alberta, all coursework toward a Master of Music in Musicology from the University of Calgary, a performance diploma from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and an artist residency at the Banff Centre. Ms Keown has performed in concert and broadcast in Canada and Europe, and continues to perform as a member of the Chamber Music Society of Mississauga.
